\nI know because I counted every second between the flashing lights appearing through the curtains and the knock at the door.
\nNot out of impatience.
\nOut of fear that someone inside that house would try to change the story before help got there.
\nTwo officers entered first. Then a paramedic team behind them.
\nThe older officer, Sergeant Ruiz, took one look at Emily sitting on the floor and his entire posture changed. He stopped being polite.
