I love food. I love cooking, trying new restaurants, baking, all of it. I\u2019m not ashamed of that. I\u2019m healthy, active enough, and generally comfortable in my body. I\u2019ve never pretended to be super skinny or a gym rat, and this is how I looked when we met.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">At the beginning of the relationship, he always told me he liked my body and that I was \u201ccurvy in a good way.\u201d No red flags there. But over time, little comments started slipping in. Things like \u201cYou don\u2019t really need seconds, do you?\u201d or \u201cWow, you really love food,\u201d said with a laugh. I brushed it off at first because I didn\u2019t want to seem overly sensitive.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The breaking point happened last week. We were out to dinner, and I ordered a burger and fries. He looked at my plate and said, \u201cNot gonna lie, if you keep eating like that, you\u2019re gonna get bigger than you already are.\u201d He followed it up with, \u201cI\u2019m just being honest because I care.\u201d<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">I was embarrassed and hurt. I told him that the comment was rude and made me uncomfortable. He immediately got defensive and said I was \u201ctoo sensitive\u201d and that he was just \u201clooking out for my health.\u201d I pointed out that he\u2019s not my doctor, I didn\u2019t ask for his input, and my body isn\u2019t a project for him to manage.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The conversation went nowhere. He doubled down and said he just doesn\u2019t want a girlfriend who \u201clets herself go.\u201d That really stuck with me. I realized that even if he apologized later, this mindset wasn\u2019t going to magically disappear.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The next day, I broke up with him. I told him I don\u2019t want to be with someone who makes me feel self conscious for enjoying food or existing in my body. He accused me of throwing away a good relationship over \u201cone comment.\u201d<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Now a couple of friends are saying that five months isn\u2019t that long and that I should\u2019ve just talked it out instead of ending things.
